Behind the design of Zip Top containers
The goal at Zip Top is to help reduce plastic waste by offering easier to use reusable containers. Simply put, Zip Top is on a mission to be better for you and better for the planet.
In 2017, that dream became reality when Rebecca Finell, a serial entrepreneur, launched the Zip Top brand. She created a clean, thoughtful design that would make it easy for people to stop using single-use plastics. Her Zip Top containers are like nothing else in the world as they stand up, stay open and zip shut! The result was a game changing product that will help millions of people to live a more eco-friendly life!
Zip Top container’s patented design is made with a one-piece construction that makes it extremely durable - microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe. Zip Top’s 100% platinum silicone construction contains no BPA, lead, PVC or phthalates. This means there is no seam to attract bacteria or tear from use! Taking food storage to the next level, Zip Top containers are helping make the move to reusable a no-brainer.
In 2020, Finell again pushed to change another industry when launching the first reusable pure silicone breast milk storage bag. With a long history in the baby industry - Founder of Boon - she knew there were better options for nursing mothers than single-use plastic disposable milk bags.
The thoughtful details put into the design have been recognized across the globe - Zip Top has already won an International Design Excellence Award, Gold German Design Award, European Product Design Award and was named a Good Housekeeping Editor’s Pick at the 2019 International Home + Housewares Show.

Will Zip Top containers retain odors?

Are Zip Top containers air-tight?
Zip Top containers seal differently than traditional plastic zippered baggies which have tiny, hard, flat plastic zippers. Zip Top containers have large, soft, rounded zippers that flex. Because of this, your containers may, at times, leak a small amount of air if squeezed. In addition, once sealed, because of the pull of the wide, rounded opening, air will sometimes want to seep back in. If so, the small amount of air in your Zip Top will act like air trapped in a typical lidded container.
Are Zip Top containers leak-proof?
Zip Top containers are designed to hold liquids upright in a kitchen environment. This is why every container says on the back to “keep liquids upright" (which is simple since all Zip Top containers stand up due to their sturdy flat bases). When kept upright, Zip Top containers are completely leak proof. Zip Top containers were never designed, for instance, to fill with water and hold upside down or for taking liquids on the go.
Can I sous vide in Zip Top containers?
We do not recommend completely submerging Zip Top containers in water for sous vide or other applications. Due to the flexible zipper seal, some water may, at times, seep into a fully submerged bag. However, Zip Top containers are great for steaming and cooking where the zipper seal may fully or partially be left open while heating.
